Day Two on Crossties

It’s been awhile since I’ve had Gracie on the cross ties, so I figured today we would go back to working on that. Gracie seemed to be in a great mood today and followed me straight to the wash stall with no issues. She didn’t even try to sneak in a nibble of grass! She stood perfectly for me while I hooked her up, and she was a perfect little lady while I started brushing her.
Everyone is in full shedding mode. I brushed her for around 10-15 minutes and I’m still nowhere near being done! It’s a wonderful time of year. Towards the end of our grooming session Gracie started getting a little bored or at least impatient, and she would walk forward as far as the ties would let her. Luckily, she still didn’t try to break through and would back up after a second or two of pressure. The same held true when she tried backing up. I’m lucky to have a smart filly!
Right when I started unhooking the first clip, Fancy came galloping down the hill, which happens to be the field directly behind the wash stall where Gracie and I were. Of course, Gracie was tied up and couldn’t turn around to see what was going on. Even with heavy hooves running straight at her, she stood her ground and allowed me to unhook her without issue. Fancy continued running around and Gracie continued to pay attention to me while we walked back to the field.
We got to the gate and Fancy took off back up the hill. I honestly expected Gracie to try to run off with her buddy, but she stood still and let me take her halter off, and didn’t even bother chasing Fancy up the hill until I had said goodbye and walked out of the gate.
Today was another great day, and Gracie showed off a sneak peak of her ability to be a bomb-proof horse. Every day makes me more excited for a full-grown Gracie!
