Fastest Time Yet, 2D Time!

On Saturday, June 6th there was an NBHA show at my favorite arena with added money. Since we’ve been doing so well lately, I of course wanted to go! But of course, I had to work. My Saturday shift is typically 9AM – 6PM, and the show started at 5PM. I figured there was no point in going. Then, the day before, my supervisor asked if I would like to change to the 8AM-5PM shift… which I was all about! It was probably 9:30 on Saturday when I remembered the show was going on, and started figuring out if it was even somewhat possible to make it.

It was possible! I left work at 4:30 and, after hurriedly getting everything together (and picking up Fancy), we made it there by six. I was a nervous wreck, thinking we had missed everything and traveled for nothing. Turns out they were on exhibition run #30… of 112.  It took me awhile to calm down, but Fancy was as cool as a cucumber the whole time. My exhibition was #108, so we sat around and watched for awhile.

A couple hours later I finally got my chance for an exhibition. I love running at this arena so much. Fancy is always so focused and ready to run. She went through it clean and easy.

Eventually they posted the running order. Being the dummy I am, I never went to check. I was there by myself and figured, well, it’s not like I’m going to draw first so, what does it matter? I, of course, forgot my dumb luck. I didn’t bother re-warming Fancy back up because I figured, out of 65 entries, I’d probably fall somewhere in the middle. I took her to the practice area and jogged her around a couple times, just in case. As I’m jogging around they finally announce the draw; the ring was dragged and they were ready to go.. The first name they announced sounded like mine, but it’s really hard to hear over in the practice area. I jogged over and sure enough, they were ready for Leanne Horn to  run. So I was not ready at all mentally, but we just went for it. Going into the first barrel is always the part I worry about the most, since we’ve gotten stuck there many times before. But, she got right around and kept going! It was a super clean run and the only time I felt unsure was going around third, because her big butt bumped it. It wiggled, but didn’t fall.

Turns out, we ran a 17.256! Our fastest time yet. The best part is, I didn’t really push her at all and just focused on making it a clean run. There was a crazy amount of competition, with first in the 1D running a 15.5. Even though we didn’t win any money (we placed 12th in the 2D) I am BEYOND proud of my girl for being yanked out of the field and running unprepared, yet running her best time ever. This is all about our personal journey for me, not out-running anyone but ourselves, and we did that! And I’m so stoked to go back on Saturday for another show. Hoping for another clean run!

PS- sorry about the lack of pictures, I was by myself and didn’t get to video my run…
