Winter Storm Stella

After a very, very mild winter, I had my doubts whether we would get a real snow storm this year. The most snow we’ve had all year was only an inch or two, and it was gone by the end of the day. Of course, when a real snow storm came into the forecast, everyone started panicking! I spent yesterday evening preparing for a potential power outage or a large amount of snow. I went in for the evening feeling pretty good, and I knew the horses were ready for it.
We didn’t get as much snow as the forecast called for, but I’d say we ended up with about eight inches overnight.
As much as I normally love living in the middle of no where, it can be pretty frustrating after snow. My road doesn’t usually get plowed any time soon, and I wasn’t able to get my little car up the snow-covered road to work. Even hours later, there were no plow trucks to be seen, just a single set of tire tracks down the middle of the road where some brave person had successfully made their way through. On top of that, it’s super windy, so the snow just kept blowing into the road!
Frustration aside, it was beautiful this morning.
The horses made it through the night just fine, with some icicles hanging from their blankets and manes. I felt bad, since they mostly have all shed their winter coat, but no one seemed cold.
Here are some pictures I took first thing this morning. Enjoy!
