Outer Banks Vacation

This year’s vacation couldn’t come quick enough for me. I’ve been creatively blocked and frustration at work has made me into quite a grumpy person. Although I always miss my babies immensely, I was ready for a few days away from the every day life with my husband. I brought a few crafting supplies with me just in case I had a spurt of creativity, and instead of packing my usual nicer clothes, I just packed a bunch of comfy clothes to relax in.

We booked the same place we did two years ago (where we got engaged!), but ended up with a third floor condo this year instead of first floor. I was a little unsure at first about all the stairs, but once I saw the view, I was so excited! There aren’t many things more relaxing than sitting on a private balcony, watching the waves roll in and catching that salty breeze.

My favorite homemade dinner, prepared by my husband, on the balcony. PARADISE!

I love this condo! It’s everything we need and feels like home!

Our whole vacation was centered around relaxing and unwinding. I even made a sand castle for the first time since I was little! We went mini golfing (twice a day), tried different restaurants, and even took the truck onto the beach!

Our off roading trip to the beach is when I finally took out my camera. I was hoping to spot some of the famous Corolla Wild Horses, but knew there was a good chance I wouldn’t. Regardless, I made a point to take as many pictures as I could.

The houses were off of sandy roads – no paved roads in sight!

We didn’t end up spotting any wild horses on our first trip, but we did try again on the way home and not only spotted them, but got to see them hang out at the edge of the water and walk across the beach! It was such a special experience for me I had to write a separate blog just to gush about it. You can find that here!

We also wanted to catch at least one gorgeous sunset on the sound side, so we visited Jockey’s Ridge State Park. We went two years ago, but had no idea how many dunes we’d have to cross from where we parked and missed sunset by a longshot. With that knowledge this time, we found a better place to enter and made it in plenty of time. Unfortunately it ended up being cloudy and rainy, so there wasn’t much to see, but I took some pictures along the way anyway.

The most sunset we saw… oh well!

We found this path on the way back to the truck. It was so beautiful!

And of course, I had to catch at least one sunrise – especially since I literally only had to look out the door! I overslept two times in a row, but woke up just in time to catch the last sunrise of the trip.

The strong tides created a cliff on the beach overnight

Watching these little fellas is one of my favorite things!

And of course, before heading home, we had to go mini golfing one last time!

We’ve only just gotten home, but I can’t wait to return next year. I feel so much better – more rested, more relaxed, and in a much better mindset. Thanks OBX! <3
