Stitch Fix Review #21 – May 2017

It’s Stitch Fix time! I’ve spent the last five months cracking down on a healthier lifestyle: lots of salads, counting calories (yuck), and in general, trying to make better food choices. Yes, for the first time in history, I kept my New Years resolution. I’m still a work in progress, but for the first time in years, I actually want to show off my figure a little! Especially since it’s my six year dating anniversary with my fiance, and who doesn’t want to look good for their man?
For this fix, I asked for something to help show off my weight loss. Besides that, I was mainly looking for pieces to bring with me on my honeymoon to Cancun. It’s still months away but A) I can’t stop thinking about it, and B) all the cute spring and summer stuff is out right now!
So, what did I get?
Fate Ruby Maxi Dress ($78)
This dress is EVERYTHING. Seriously. It hits all of the things I asked for in a honeymoon dress. I asked for a maxi dress, a floral pattern, and side slits. Put them all together and you get this! I love that the white dress under the pattern is short, and the long part is a little see-through. It’s perfect for a date with my soon-to-be husband during our honeymoon! Part of the allure of this dress is that I’ll be wearing it for something fantastic. It’s a good time just waiting to happen!
Your Story Rainey Cold Shoulder Lace Blouse ($38)
This top is so cute and unique! I love so many of the little details on this. The stitching through the middle and the tops of the sleeves is such a fun detail, and the lace on the bottom just brings it all together. It’s such a sweet, romantic top, and perfect for date night with my man. I’m not going to lie, this top is super white, and I’m super nervous I’m going to stain it. So far, so good!
The only downside of this top is that it does billow out from the chest, so it’s not the most flattering in a side view. If you have a larger bust, it’s going to give a tent-like look. Since I’ve worked so hard to lose weight, I don’t really like how loose it is. However. I exchanged the small for an extra small, and the extra small fits just a bit better! (The small is pictured.) I’ll get into exchanges more a little later.
Pixley Crissie Dress ($68)
My note for this fix started with: “I’ve lost 20 pounds! Help me look how I feel!” – I don’t think my stylist could have picked a better dress for that request! I feel fierce in this dress. It’s flirty, cute, and maybe even a little sexy. PERFECT for our anniversary dinner! I love this color on me, and the scallop details are a unique touch. Oh, and by the way – it has pockets. Sold.
The only issue I have with this dress is the chest area, which is a very tight fit. The material is non-stretch, which is always an issue with a larger bust. I did try an exchange for a size up, but found that the dress was then too loose everywhere else. I ended up keeping the original size (more on exchanges below). Hopefully, with a little more weight loss, it will fit perfect!
Kut From the Kloth Jansen Printed Linen Short ($58) Report Footwear Laina Braided Sandal ($39)
If these shorts aren’t meant to be worn on the beach in Cancun, then I don’t know what is. The length is perfect! I also love all things turquoise, and all things floral, so these were a great pick just for that reason. I honestly love that these can just be super easy, super casual, and yet they look so stylish!
And the sandals… I love that they have backs! They’re cute, but more than anything, I love the versatility. Great for work, wandering around the resort in Cancun, and everything in between. Now I just need 3 more pairs!

I am so pleased with everything in this Fix! I know I’ll get a lot of use out of every piece. I actually had pinned the Fate dress and Pixley dress months ago, and totally forgot about both of them. I recognized the Fate dress once I pulled it out of the box (almost like it was fate… hehe). It was a pleasant surprise once I tried it on, to see it was even better in person.
It’s nice to know that so much attention is focused on the Pinterest board. I make sure to only pin things I would buy and wear, and it seems to be working out. Sometimes, I think my stylist “gets me” more than I do!
Now, on to exchanges:
When you check out your order, you have the option to request a size exchange. You can select your size if it’s available, and then you send back the original sizes (along with anything else you might need to return) in the pre-labeled bag they send you with your Fix. They mail out the exchanges, and it’s almost like receiving another Fix when the exchange comes!
I’m just going to tell you my personal experience with exchanges, with this particular Fix. The Your Story top seemed a tad too big, but I wasn’t sure if a size down would fix the issue. I frequently run into the issue of the bust area being too tight to get things to fit everywhere else properly. I had a similar concern for the Pixley dress – the bust area was a bit tight, but I wasn’t sure if a size up would be a poor fit everywhere else. I reached out to their Customer Service to see if there would be a way to hold on to my original sizes until the exchanges arrived, so I could decide on the better size. They were quick to get back to me and let me know that they pushed out my return date, to allow the exchanges to arrive.
The exchanges arrived quickly. I was able to pick the best size for each item and send the other back. I kept the exchange for the top, but opted for the original dress. Although the bust area was a bit roomier, the rest of the dress was pretty large, which made it lose its shape on me.
As someone that works in Customer Care myself (not for Stitch Fix, in case that wasn’t clear), I am so appreciative of the general level of service I always get when I reach out to them. Being able to get a Fix is already a privilege, but their Customer Service really steps it up!
I’m feeling great in all my new pieces, and feeling at peace after confirming I had chosen the best fit possible. Here’s to the next one!
Never heard of Stitch Fix before?
What exactly is it? Stitch Fix is this great online service where a personal stylist sends you five items they think you’ll love. Here’s how it works:
1. Sign up! My referral link is: https://www.stitchfix.com/invite/zsbcmtchf4?sod=w&som=c
2. Fill out your “Style Profile”. Be honest and make sure you add lots of notes so your stylist can really get to know you! Also, I definitely recommend adding a Pinterest board, if you have one. Plus, if you’re like me and don’t like to spend too much on clothes, I’d add something along the lines of “Please be economical, I rarely spend more than $20 on any item”.
3. Set up when you would like your “Fix” shipped. You can have these sent out automatically every 2-3 weeks, every month, every other month, etc, OR you can just pick a date without setting up automatic shipments.
4. Add a note to your stylist. I always say something along the lines of, “I need cardigans for work” or, “I’m looking for a perfect date night dress”.
5. Pay a $20 styling fee (if you keep one item or more, that $20 goes towards your order!)
6. Get high-quality clothes and accessories delivered to your door! Try them on in the comfort of your home with your favorite other pieces. Take three days (or more, depending if your shipment comes early) to decide what you love and don’t love. Send any unwanted items back with free shipping. Keep all five items, get 25% off your whole order. Pay online and let them know what you think of each item. It’s the easiest, most convenient thing I’ve ever done.
