Stitch Fix Review #23 – August 2017

It’s getting to be crunch time for all the wedding things! My mind has been a non-stop whirlwind of thoughts, ideas, and mental notes of things I still need to do. (And if one more person asks me if I’ve finished everything, I think I’ll lose my mind.) With everything going on, I kind of, sort of forgot that I had a Fix scheduled. Let’s just call it a happy mistake! Luckily, I had updated my note at some point. In my last fix, I got a pair of really pretty turquoise jeans that fit pretty well. I just couldn’t get past the elastic waistband, so I sent them back. I asked for a second try on mint skinny jeans, a pair of low-heeled booties/sandals/shoes, work-appropriate tops and/or dresses, a cardigan, or anything my stylist thought I would love!

So, what did I get?

Papermoon Bloom Knit Maxi Dress ($54)

This dress has all of my favorite things! If you’ve seen any of my previous reviews, I’m always raving about floral prints. The bright colors on the black background are striking, and really fit my usual style. I’m also all about maxi dresses, side slits, and wrap style dresses (they tend to be the most flattering). Put that all together, and you get this beautiful dress! It seemed almost too short – maybe just an inch or so. Or, maybe I’m just used to dresses not being the proper length. Being only about 5’2, maxi dresses usually mean wearing some kind of heel! I liked that I could wear sandals with this.

Honey Punch Novah Elbow Patch Cardigan ($54) Just Black Bellamy Frayed Hem Skinny Jean (88)

I’m pretty sure this Honey Punch cardigan is made of clouds. It’s magically soft! I don’t have any words to describe how wonderful this cardigan is. It’s amazingly comfortable, soft, and it has elbow patches! WIN!

The color on the jeans is pretty much right what I was looking for! Actually, it turns out I had these exact ones pinned, which my stylist confirmed in her always-thoughtful note. I’m not huge on the frayed hem trend, as I’m afraid they won’t stand up over time as well as a typical hem. But these are very comfortable, the waist fits perfect, and the fabric is extremely soft! I think I’ve really liked all of the Just Black jeans I’ve gotten from Stitch Fix. The only thing I didn’t love, is that they are pretty tight through the legs (they’re supposed to be), and I can see all the detail of my knees. I feel like that’s silly to say, but we are always our own worst critics. Otherwise, these fit the bill!

DV8 Chyro Perforated Faux Suede Bootie ($95) Alice Blue Kendahl Ruffle Top ($42)

The booties are… meh. I don’t necessarily dislike them, but they didn’t stand out to me enough for me to spend this much money on them. I knew going into this Fix (when it magically arrived at my door) that I couldn’t keep everything, so I knew that these would have to go back. I tend to like perforated details, and I love zipper detailing, too. The heel is a great height for my bad knee, the color is nice, and these could be very versatile. In theory, these are exactly what I asked for! The slight puckering up top, and the price, and the “meh” factor made it a pretty easy decision to send these back.

I’m sorry to bring this up. Have you every seen “It”? Pennywise the Dancing Clown? The ruffles around the neck remind me of him. I promise I won’t include a picture to compare (Google is a thing, though, for you curious souls). I do like the pattern, and the material is thicker and comfy. I’m not usually a fan of ruffles anyway, but the ruffles around the neck really weren’t doing it for me. I like the top with something over it (a denim jacket, a cardigan), but my reason for requesting work appropriate sleeveless tops, was so that I wouldn’t need to layer something over it. Not a bad pick, just not quite my thing. It does meet my work appropriate request!

And What Did I Keep?

Papermoon Bloom Knit Maxi Dress – Keep! Honey Punch Novah Elbow Patch Cardigan – Keep! Just Black Bellamy Frayed Hem Skinny Jean – Keep! DV8 Chyro Perforated Faux Suede Bootie  – Sent back. Alice Blue Kendahl Ruffle Top – Sent back. I had nightmares about Pennywise last night.

Overall, I can tell that my stylist definitely took the time to try to meet my requests specific to this Fix. Everything I asked for, was sent to me! Some of the items didn’t work out, but that happens! As always, I know my Pinterest board was reviewed, and definitely was used as a source of reference. I already know I’m going to wear the cloud cardigan a lot more than anyone should wear one thing, and the jeans are going to be great, transitioning into fall. I love that this whole fix really put a smile on my face, even though I wasn’t expecting it! I’ve set my next fix to about a week and a half before my wedding, for something good to come in the time of what I’m sure will be stress. I will definitely be looking forward to the next one!

Never heard of Stitch Fix before?

What exactly is it? Stitch Fix is this great online service where a personal stylist sends you five items they think you’ll love. Here’s how it works:

2. Fill out your “Style Profile”. Be honest and make sure you add lots of notes so your stylist can really get to know you! Also, I definitely recommend adding a Pinterest board, if you have one. Plus, if you’re like me and don’t like to spend too much on clothes, I’d add something along the lines of “Please be economical, I rarely spend more than $20 on any item”.

3. Set up when you would like your “Fix” shipped. You can have these sent out automatically every 2-3 weeks, every month, every other month, etc, OR you can just pick a date without setting up automatic shipments.

4. Add a note to your stylist. I always say something along the lines of, “I need cardigans for work” or, “I’m looking for a perfect date night dress”.

5. Pay a $20 styling fee (if you keep one item or more, that $20 goes towards your order!)

6. Get high-quality clothes and accessories delivered to your door! Try them on in the comfort of your home with your favorite other pieces. Take three days (or more, depending if your shipment comes early) to decide what you love and don’t love. Send any unwanted items back with free shipping. Keep all five items, get 25% off your whole order. Pay online and let them know what you think of each item. It’s the easiest, most convenient thing I’ve ever done.
