It’s been awhile! And not by choice, unfortunately. I’ve been waiting for my first closing as a Realtor before getting another Fix, and I’ve literally gone through four contracts on one house over the last six months. But it’s my birthday, and I’ll get a Fix if I want to! Well, that, and we finally had a closing date set for the day before my birthday. Unfortunately the closing got pushed out another week, but it did happen. So here it is! My birthday/celebratory first closing Fix! I made a Pinterest board with collages of Stitch Fix items I’d wear as an outfit for my stylist to go off of. There were a lot of blazers, cozy cardigans, long sleeve and 3/4 sleeve blouses, sleeveless blouses, jeans, and dress pants. (Basically, I need to update my whole wardrobe.)

So, what did I get?

Staccato Daruka V-Neck Pullover ($44)

The first thing I grabbed was this sweater. I love the shade of tan/brown and I always love striped tops. The fabric is so soft, and the price point is just right. It fits well, and I’m sure I’d wear it. But while I’m being very careful of what I buy, is it special enough to keep?

Skies are Blue Hannah Modal Scuba Blazer ($88)

So, I kind of hate the color yellow. If I saw this blazer in a store I’d never pick it up. When I saw this in the box I had pretty much written it off. But when I grabbed it and unfolded it I felt how soft the fabric was, and saw how cute the cut was. So I said, okay, let’s at least try it on. (Always try everything on in a Fix!) Sure enough, while it took a little for the color to grow on me, it did. It fits so perfectly, and this particular tone of yellow flattered my hair and skintone. I went through my closet to see if I had tops that would go with it and found around ten tops, surprisingly, that worked. Fun? Check. Flattering? Check. Versatile? Check.

Brina & Em Lemmy V-Neck Top ($38)

The pattern of this top was of course the first thing I noticed when I grabbed it – it’s one of those patterns teetering on the line of cute or something my grandma would wear. But, the cut looked like it would be flattering, and it does have tabs to easily wear as a 3/4 sleeve top. I held out final judgement until I tried it on with some of my favorite pieces, like this skirt I recently picked up. With the right outfit, I actually really love this top! I think I will get a lot of use out of it with a bunch of different looks. It’s a great top for my professional wardrobe and was at a great price!

Kut From The Kloth Simmons Bootcut Jean ($88)

These jeans are a mystery to me. I’ve had them on my Pinterest board since the beginning of time, so I was super excited to see them show up in my Fix. But when I unfolded them, I was completely confused. They looked like the same length of my husband’s jeans (he’s six feet tall, I’m 5’2″), and the bootcut portion looked super wide. I tried them on though, hoping for a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants magical fit. Not so much. In the picture above I’m wearing my highest heels (probably around four inches) and they are still dragging on the ground by a few inches. The boot cut itself also started way above my knee, which I’ve never seen before. But the thighs and hip were perfect, and the waist was near perfect (slightly loose, but not enough to size down). I took them off to check the sewn in tag. Maybe Stitch Fix had tagged them wrong? But the sewn in tag said “12S”. I’m sorry, but in what world are short women like six feet tall?! I always wear regular length jeans, so I’m lost. Oh well, maybe the next fix will have my magical jeans.

PS – the top is my FAVORITE thing I’ve ever gotten from Stitch Fix!

Papermoon Halls Brushed Knit Two Pocket Cardigan ($44)

So far, this Fix has been an adventure. I was happy to see this cardigan, which is in my favorite color to wear and as soft as it could possibly be. It might not be anything super special, but it’s comfy and versatile, so it’s for me! The above picture is my go-to every day look, but I know it will pair great with my professional wardrobe, too.

And What Did I Keep?

Staccato Daruka V-Neck Pullover – Sent back, regrettably. Skies Are Blue Hannah Modal Scuba Blazer – Keep! Best surprise of this Fix! Brina & Em Lemmy V-Neck Top – Keep! KFTK Simmons Bootcut Jean – Sent back. Papermoon Halls Brushed Knit Two Pocket Cardigan – Keep!

I loved unwrapping this Fix to find such a fun array of fall colors. Overall, I am pretty pleased with this Fix, as usual. I’m kind of glad it wasn’t a 5/5 because I do need to be so careful financially while I build my client list, but I do always hope for a 5/5. I really do need a good fitting pair of jeans, so I’m hopeful for a good pair next Fix (probably around Christmas). But the blazer was definitely a pleasant surprise, and something I’ve already gotten so many compliments on from just wearing it once. I don’t plan on buying a bunch of yellow because I still generally don’t love the color, but I’m happy to have this for something unique in my closet. It was fun as always to try everything on, and even though I’m at an all time low of self esteem, I felt good in every single piece. Thanks, Megan (stylist) and Stitch Fix!

Never heard of Stitch Fix before?

What exactly is it? Stitch Fix is this great online service where a personal stylist sends you five items they think you’ll love. Here’s how it works:

2. Fill out your “Style Profile”. Be honest and make sure you add lots of notes so your stylist can really get to know you! Also, I definitely recommend adding a Pinterest board, if you have one. Plus, if you’re like me and don’t like to spend too much on clothes, I’d add something along the lines of “Please be economical, I rarely spend more than $20 on any item”.

3. Set up when you would like your “Fix” shipped. You can have these sent out automatically every 2-3 weeks, every month, every other month, etc, OR you can just pick a date without setting up automatic shipments.

4. Add a note to your stylist. I always say something along the lines of, “I need cardigans for work” or, “I’m looking for a perfect date night dress”.

5. Pay a $20 styling fee (if you keep one item or more, that $20 goes towards your order!)

6. Get high-quality clothes and accessories delivered to your door! Try them on in the comfort of your home with your favorite other pieces. Take three days (or more, depending if your shipment comes early) to decide what you love and don’t love. Send any unwanted items back with free shipping. Keep all five items, get 25% off your whole order. Pay online and let them know what you think of each item. It’s the easiest, most convenient thing I’ve ever done.
